The following study has the goal of exploring the social representations of sexuality within a group of elderly women of the Metropolitan Region of the city of Lima. Thus, to comprehend how concepts of sexuality are built during this particular stage of life. In order to do so, a qualitative research was conducted under socio-constructivist epistemological framework. The participants were a group of 10 elderly women within the ages of 60 to 75, 5 of which were in an active romantic relationship and 5 who were not. The data was collected by using semistructured individual interviews. The results showed that for this sample, companionship and friendship are at the core of the social representations of sexuality. In addition, there was a strong presence of gender roles in sexuality. These refer to a differentiation when experiencing sexuality due to the fact that women are in a more disadvantaged position when it comes to social criticism. In relation to the physical changes produced by ageing, women expressed unconformities due to the effects of menopause at an emotional and physical level. Additionally, stereotypes concerning elderly women were also found.
