The estimation of vulnerability functions was obtained by estimating the average cost and standard deviation due to seismic damage caused by a certain intensity of seismic event, for a specific structural typology that characterize the uncertainty of the cost of damage from the probabilistic point of view given a seismic intensity assumed randomly. The damage and its estimate were evaluated for structural elements (columns, beams, lightened slabs, plates etc.) and non-structural elements (partitions, equipment, pipes, installations, glass, etc.). It also includes the costs derived from partial or total losses of structural system functionality. Vulnerability curves are used as part of the seismic risk analysis that includes the following stages: •Seismic hazard analysis •Analysis of the exposure of the inventory of structures, buildings and activities subject to risk •Vulnerability analysis, which is the estimation of damage and cost in a specific structure or typology in a given area •Risk assessment of a structure, an area or a region subject to a certain seismic threat. The procedure for obtaining vulnerability functions is explained, presenting the necessary theory that explains the methodology followed by the “Probabilistic Seismic Vulnerability Tool” (PSVT) program in its first version of 2015. The calculation of the seismic probability is obtained through Monte Carlo Simulation (SMC), of models of simple buildings of one or two floors and makes it possible to estimate response through models of a non-linear degree of freedom. The methodology followed allows to evaluate the behavior of the structure for an allowable ductility (μ) considering a system of a degree of freedom (1GL). This was decided based on the allowable deformation and ductility capacity that the materials can reach and the detailed design selected. The methodology also allows estimating the deformation of an existing structure in which its performance should be evaluated considering a 1GL system, previously determining the mass (m), initial stiffness (k) and resistance to yield (fy) from of its dimensions, size of the elements and the detailed design (reinforcements in reinforced concrete structures, connections of steel structures, etc.) Our study focuses on the C1mck 1GL and C2 mckFy 1GL classes, predetermined in the PSVT program. The C1mck 1GL model corresponds to a linear 1GL model that, by including the inelastic deformation coefficient factor, estimates the maximum lateral displacement in the inelastic range by simulation, to finally obtain the vulnerability curves. The C2 mckFy 1GL model corresponds to an inelastic 1GL model that uses a model of elastoplastic hysteretic behavior, based on creep deformation, system stiffness and stiffness ratio (post-creep stiffness between elastic range stiffness) inelastic maximum displacements are obtained to finally obtain the vulnerability curve through Monte Carlo Simulation (SMC). To explain the performance verification procedure, a common building (housing) and a typical block of an essential building (school) were selected, both buildings correspond to formal constructions so they have a construction license and their design against side loads is based on Technical Standard E030 “Earthquake Resistant Design“. The seismic demand model, structural model for the simulation, and its analysis have been generated until the vulnerability functions are determined. The results show that the fragility curves give a low or no value of presenting a probability of collapse, which complies with the design philosophy of Technical Standard E030 “Earthquake Resistant Design“. The estimation of the vulnerability curve allows to determine the cost of repair of the structures for a scenario of seismic demand, and by the percentage of vulnerability that the structures reached before the scenario characterized by a maximum acceleration value (PGA), it is not necessary to reinforce the buildings analyzed.
