The present study focused on the development of an alternative method for the treatment of domestic waste water, in order to control the concentration of organic pollutants in waters receptors. Also, it provides a management to give previous treatment for its later reuse in different agricultural, livestock, among others activities. This investigation was realized in Cajamarca district, province and department; it is focused in the design and construction of three systems of wetlands of sub-superficial flow based on U.S. EPA-Enviromental Protection Agency (1993) and García & Corzo (2008), which were used to evaluate the effect of the time of retention and the variation of species of ornamental plants in the removal of organic matter of domestic waste water. It was considered to be a sample before the treatment for its later comparison; in the construction it was in use, three rectangular warehouses that were containing caps of gravel, fine sand and organic soil; in the first container there was sowed Zantedeschia aethiopica (Flor de Cartucho), in the second Canna spp (Achira) and in the third party both species. After the adjustment of the plants it was proceeded to take water samples to the exit of the systems for 4 days every 24 hours, the analysis of turbidity was born in mind, total dissolved solids (TDS), conductivity, pH, temperature (T °), total suspended solids (SST), biochemical demand of oxygen (DBO5) and chemical demand of oxygen (DQO). With this study it was determined that the percentage of removal of organic matter in the wetland 1 was 75 % of SST, 89 % of DBO5 and 81 % DQO; in the wetland 2 of 83 % of SST, 94 % of DBO5 and 88 % DQO; and in the wetland 3 of 85 % of SST, 93 % of DBO5 and 87 % of DQO. Hence one concludes that, the time of retention and the variation of plants caused a positive effect for the treatment of domestic waste water.
