The purpose of this research is to evaluate the effect of freeze-dried Moringa oleifera Lam. as a coagulating agent in the removal of total solids and chemical oxygen demand in tannery effluent. An initial characterization of tannery of the soaking process effluent was performed, where pH was obtained of 9.85 and chemical oxygen demand 9 100mg/L exceeding the Maximun Allowable Values (MAV), in addition a turbidity was obtained the 1 899.2 NTU, total solids 51 070 mg/L these parameters were used as rapid measurement indicators. The design that was applied in the research is the of Plackett-Burman, where the following variables were determined: pH, Concentration of Coagulant, Speed of rapid agitation, Speed of low agitation, Rapid Agitation Time and Slow Agitation Time. The design involved the assembly of 14 experimental treatments in duplicate by using a statistical Plackett-Burman screening design in optimization processes. it was done to establish the variables that significantly influence the removal of turbidity, Suspended Solids and Chemical Oxygen Demand applying the freeze-dried Moringa oleifera Lam as a coagulanting agent. It is concluded that the freeze-dried Moringa oleifera Lam. as a coagulating agent has a significant effect on the removal of Turbidity, Total Solids and Chemical Oxygen Demand, estimating that it is capable of removing Turbidity at 100%, Total Solids at 25% and Chemical Oxygen Demand to 25%. It should also be noted that the use of freeze-dried Moringa oleifera Lam. in the removal of effluents from the soaking process of tannery sets a basis or precedent, since it has not been used in other investigations.
