ABSTRACT This thesis aims to evaluate the effect of sulfuric acid concentration and particle size in the extraction of copper leaching from an oxide ore zone Cerro Corona “. Hypothesis the higher the concentration of sulfuric acid and smaller particle size, higher copper recovery will be achieved by acid leaching process by stirring; the type of study used is “experimental“. 1, 3 and 5 three levels of Grit: performing the experimental design bifactorial 3 levels of sulfuric acid concentration (%) chose # 100, # 140, # 200, 3 replicates for each interaction was performed; this thesis considers a population of high grade oxide ore Copper Cerro Corona area; likewise the sample was taken from different parts of the cone unloading trucks, both thick, semigruesos and fine, performing with the shovel from the bottom up until a sample of approximately 100 Kg; this sample is crushed in a jaw crusher the crushed ore is mixed to ensure uniformity of the valuable particles is then extended and proceeds to cuartear, forming a circle divided into four equal parts, of which two opposite quarters are taken random and not taken the other two are discarded. The two rooms have been re-quartering to obtain a final sample should be 250-500 gr. For agitation leaching. The following data collection techniques were used: secondary information (thesis, specialized reports, yearbooks companies); for geological data analysis was used INGEMMET letter; random sampling, physical and chemical tests applied in the laboratories of the National University of Trujillo. The main result was possible to determine the optimum parameters for the highest recovery of copper; these are a mesh particle size # 140 and a sulfuric acid concentration of 5 %, in which a value of 94.40% was obtained. It is found that the interaction of sulfuric acid concentration and the particle size does affect the recovery of copper (Alternate Hypothesis). As a result of this study it was determined that the effect of sulfuric acid concentration and the grain size in the copper extraction by leaching technique of oxide ore zone Cerro Corona, the optimum parameter sulfuric acid concentration of 5 %, and the optimum parameter is the grain size # 3 %esh.
