There are currently a variety of studies that have investigated the side effects of the contraceptive implant. The World Health Organization1 stated that the implant has side effects such as amenorrhea which does not require any treatment, little bleeding that is not harmful, and heavy bleeding. In an investigation by Acosta León, et. As of 2 in 2019, it states that the implant has side effects such as: dizziness, breast pain, headache, local pain, weight gain and acne. Therefore, the presence of these side effects are the main reasons why users of this contraceptive method remove the implant before the indicated date. Objective: To determine the secondary effects related to the time of use of the contraceptive implant in the family planning users of C.M.I Santa Luzmila II. 2019 - 2020. Materials and methods: The type of research is non-experimental, cross-sectional - descriptive - retrospective. The population consisted of 217 users and the sample consisted of 139 users of the contraceptive implant from the family planning area of the Santa Luzmila II Maternal and Child Center from 2019 to 2020. For the correlational analysis of the study variables, the statistical program SPSS V.22 in Spanish. The main instrument used was the data collection form. Results: 49.6% represent the ages between 23 to 28 years old, being the majority. The degree of instruction, 61.9% have higher education. 41% of the population is single. 41.7% did not gain weight, however, 27.3% gained weight 3 months after using the implant, 13.6% gained weight at 6 months, and 17.2% increased weight at 12 months. 41.7% did not have headaches when using the implant, while 31.6% did present at 3 months of use, 16.5% at 6 months, and 10% at 12 months. 54.6% did not present breast tension, however, 20.8% at 3 months presented breast tension, 10% at 6 months, and 14.3% at 12 months.
