The study aimed to determine the carbon capture capacity in two species of high Andean natural pastures Stipa ichu and Alchemilla vulgaris. The research was carried out during the months of May to December 2019. Likewise, the collection of the samples was carried out the phenological stages. The samples were washed and dried to the environment for three days and then the aerial part and the root part were separated by a cut at the neck level of each of the plants. The carbon concentration was determined using the Walkley-Black. (Arrieche & Pacheco, 1998) The results of the analysis of variance show that there is statistical significance at a 1% probability for factors B (parts of the plant) y C (phenological stages). Finally, the LSD (Minimum Significant Difference) test resulted in S. ichu being more efficient, since on average it has a carbon capture capacity of 30.21% unlike A. vulgaris 29.25%. On the other hand, the ichu has a greater capacity to capture carbon in the pre-flowering stage with 37.35%, while A. vulgaris possesses in the flowering stage with a 32.01%.
