In the Cercado of Lima there are about 7506 homes built with Earth, 70% of which is in a precarious state, after the historical earthquakes of the past 50 years was evidenced the high seismic vulnerability in adobe construction patterns and the need to establish diagnoses of his physical condition that allows to propose preventive measures. The qualitative method of the calculation of the index of vulnerability serves to estimate the degradation that would suffer a structure subjected to the action of an earthquake of a certain characteristics and magnitude, this study proposes the modification of the proposed method by Benedetti - Petrini adapting it and appropriate for the evaluation of existing adobe buildings. To develop the proposal was a casuistic application in the Church of our Lady of the Rosary of the Rímac; adobe infrastructure assessed the results of genuine method and the modified, also established a comparative analysis of the resulting vulnerability indices. The proposal modifies two parameters of the eleven that make up the genuine method, the parameters 3 and 11, other qualitative and quantitative one respectively, altering both represents a revision of the 29.4% of the method, in this range is calculated reliability achieved after amendment. For the adjustment of parameter 3 replaced the genuine conventional resistance equation by their equivalent equation for calculation of the Basal force of the E80 Peruvian standard of construction with reinforced earth, both equations define the effort to cut into the base the wall and define their characteristics and geometric conditions idealizing the allowable effort. The modification of the parameter 11 incorporates a scheme of taking of collect information known as modal or instrumental inspection; this scheme moves the visual inspection as part of assessment, replacing it with one of technical tests. Highlights the application of infrared thermography test, this allowed the identification of structural damage, concentration of moisture, pockets of vacuum, patterns of cracks in traditional sectors and some deep cracks hidden after the plaster and wood. Finally, was made a comparative analysis of the results obtained by both approaches, as the modification to the method result projected different results generating a numerical gap of 100 points on the scale of ranges Benedetti - Petrini. This gap allows a different valuation between both results, raising the qualification of the medium to high vulnerability index, obtaining a more reliable result with the modification.
