The main objective of this research was to know which of these two strategies (emotional suppression and cognitive reevaluation) of emotional self-regulation, predominate the university students of the psychology career of a private university in north Lima. Since they enter the university, university students go through tedious, academic, family, emotional processes, etc. Likewise, they begin to look for strategies that contribute to these processes, specifically in emotional life, how they manage and face emotions, whether negative or positive. That is why we carried out a descriptive study, with a non-experimental design with cross-section, where information was collected through a questionnaire “Questionnaire of Emotional Self-Regulation Adapted for Peru“ (ERQP) by Rafael Gargurevich and Lennia Matos, in 2010. This test contains 10 Likert questions and contains the dimensions of Cognitive Reevaluation and Suppression, Also, the sample was made up of 70 university students of the psychology career with the age range of 17 to 25 years. The results indicated according to the general objective the Cognitive Revaluation is the one that prevails in the university students obtaining a percentage of 55.7%, higher than that of the Suppression with a percentage of 45.7% and the specific objectives according to the gender, in Cognitive Revaluation obtained a result where women 34.3% and men 21.4% tend to a medium level and that of Suppression according to gender, females with 25.7% and males 20% tend to a high level.
