Open pit mining are operations that can be focused as a sequential energy consumption system. The individual consumptions of each unit operation are the weighted factors of the sustainability and the efficiency of the process. The mining industry knows that the greatest energy is concentrated in mining in the crushing process, in oil and electricity and explosives, which leads us to understand that a more intense contribution of energy in the blasting will have a more significant global impact. This leads us to the search for an explosive that has greater energetic power and in this way optimize costs in the process of fragmentation of the rock. This thesis shows the benefits that the bulk explosive “RIOFLEX“ can provide to the Yanacocha Mining Unit, therefore, the objective of this work is to evaluate the technical / economic results of the tests carried out using RIOFLEX in the open pit mine according to the established KPIs. Initially, blasting tests are carried out using the Hydrogel in different pits and with different rock hardness, which show favorable results, as well as studies of the variables of each blasting such as the estimation of the excavation rate, analyzing the fragmentation and its ratios, interpreting the speed of detonation, in addition to analyzing the vibrations generated by the use of the explosive, thus achieving results such as cost reduction and increased productivity. Finally, the results of the tests within the established KPIS were obtained, even improving some of them, with the mesh enlargement by 12.2%.
