The objective of this investigation is to evaluate the clay brick with the addition of 0.2, 0.5 and 0.7% polystyrene, its mechanical and physical properties, and if they comply with the E-070 Technical Standards for masonry units. The research is of a quantitative approach, quasi-experimental design, applied and explanatory level. The sample consisted of 72 bricks; For the mixture, conventional materials such as clay, water and 0.2, 0.5 and 0.7% polystyrene were used; After submitting the bricks to compression tests, axial compression in piles, axial compression in walls, dimensional variation, warpage and absorption, the results were obtained, that the masonry units with addition of the percentages of polystyrene at 14 and 28 days After drying, their resistance to compression, in units, piles and walls indicate that they are classified as type II bricks according to NT E-070; In the same way, for the dimensional variation, all the units with the addition of polystyrene present similar results to the bricks accepted by the NT E-070; likewise, the bricks with the addition of polystyrene present a warping that classifies them as class II bricks according to NT E-070, in the same way for absorption. The Shapiro-Wilk normality test shows a normal distribution of all the data, and the ANOVA test, in all cases accepts the alternative hypothesis (H1), that is, the addition to the clay brick at 0.2%, 0.5% and 0.7%, influences the physical and mechanical properties of these units. The cost per unit of ecological brick with polystyrene is S/.3.12; differently for bricks with 0.2% polystyrene the unit cost is: S/.3.0, with 0.5% polystyrene S/.3.1 and with 0.7% polystyrene S/.3.2.
