The main objective of this thesis is to measure the influence of the design of a maintenance management system on the mechanical availability of Volvo FMX 440 tippers. The type of research is applied, explanatory, quantitative and non-experimental, as a technique it was used the documentary review and the interview. Initially, a situational diagnosis of the maintenance management system was carried out based on the work orders for corrective and preventive maintenance, as well as the diagnosis of the MTBF, MTTR and mechanical availability, obtaining indicators outside the standards allowed by the company. Subsequently, the design of the maintenance management system was carried out and the possible improvements with the implementation were evaluated, estimating that the report of preventive TOs are greater than 75% and corrective TOs less than 25%, likewise, an increase in the MTBF from 43.26 to 151.42 hours; a decrease in MTTR from 8.08 to 5.44 hours and finally an increase in mechanical availability from 84% to 97%, being above the standard stipulated by the company. Finally, based on the estimated savings of $ 88,829, the economic, benefit-cost analysis of the maintenance management system design was performed, obtaining a value of 2.40 indicating that the benefits outweigh the costs, therefore, the project must Be considered.
