The purpose of work was to determine the relationship between family functioning and the use of video games, consisting of 222 adolescents, of both sexes and aged between 12 and 16 years, who belonged to a public educational institution, located in the district of Comas. The methodology used in this research was determined under the quantitative approach that corresponds to a non-experimental design, of correlational descriptive typology. The psychological instruments used in the gathering of information were the Family Functionality Scale (FACES-III) elaborated by Olson, Portier and Lavee in 1985 and the Scale of addiction to video games for adolescents (GASA) created in 2009 by Lemmens, Valkenburg and Peter . The results reported that family functioning (flexibility and cohesion) is not related to the use of video games, however effective family cohesion is related in an inverse and significant way (p <0.001, rho-.213 **) with relapses in the use of videogames It is concluded that the more cohesive the family appears, the lower the relapse will be compared to the use of video games in the adolescents participating in the research.
