The objective of the research was to identify the knowledge and beliefs in relation to their diet during pregnancy that the pregnant women attended at the Maternal and Child Center from June - September, 2020 have. In materials and methods, it is a study with a quantitative, descriptive approach, prospective, cross-sectional and observational. The instrument was a questionnaire that was applied in a population of 96 pregnant women, it was composed of 20 questions; between sociodemographic characteristics, knowledge about food based on their habits, beliefs and learning needs. The results, predominantly adult population between 18 - 45 years old (97%) and with higher education (51%), where their main knowledge is related to the consumption of proteins for the growth and development of the baby (82.3%) , identify the excess consumption of fats and carbohydrates as a risk factor for overweight and obesity during pregnancy (90.6%) and the consumption of folic acid and ferrous sulfate, for the prevention of abnormalities in the development of the baby and anemia (84.4%). Regarding beliefs, they identify that the consumption of beets and green vegetables are preventive foods against anemia (54%) and that their religion does not interfere with or prohibit any type of diet (92.7%). Finally, the needs to improve their learning were identified as making use of information technologies (74.2%) and experiential activities based on their own eating experience (70%). Conclusion, the main knowledge is related to the consumption of food for the growth and development of the baby, reducing the risk of overweight and obesity during pregnancy and the consumption of iron and folic acid supplements for the prevention of abnormalities in newborn development and maternal anemia. Likewise, the consumption of beets and green vegetables is the main belief for the prevention of anemia, religion is not a barrier for the promotion of food consumption and age and educational level, contribute directly to the knowledge that can be put into practice.
