ABSTRACT The Mining Company Casapalca S.A. (Cía. Minera Casapalca), is located in the sierra of Lima, District of Chicla, Province of Huarochirí, Department of Lima. The company is considered medium-sized mining because of its production capacity, it has underground mining units, which include vertical and inclined pikes. It develops activities as: exploration, exploitation and production of metallic minerals. For the present study in the Cía. Minera Casapalca, it has been evaluated the chop of 650, so the data taken are true in the change of steel wires in the hoisting system, this will allow the analysis of the current process. The maintenance of each of the underground mining units in Peru is similar, because they use a lifting system for the transport of material and personnel; the proper process in the change of steel wires of these systems, would prolong the useful life of all its components; this investigative project seeks to improve the process of the system in mention, because we have identified that for this process, many man hours (20 man hours) are being used and it generates stops in the extraction of minerals, in which for each hour of stop for the change of steel wires, 210tn of minerals is not removed. For the analysis of this problem, we have collected real data of “Cía. Minera Casapalca”. The improvement of the process in the change of steel wires in the lifting system has the purpose to reduce the time of the operation in the maintenance (39.5% of hours); consequently, with the implementation of a motorized machine, productivity in the Company would increase. Additionally a system of lubrication and tension test in the process of change of the wires of steel would be included; this change will considerably reduce working time in this activity.
