ABSTRACT This research work has the general objective of improvement through simulating the loading and hauling system to reduce Operations area’s costs of a mining unit. The diagnosis indicates that in the last quarter of 2013 queuing problems were experienced in the CAT-785C trucks assigned to short routes, which accounted for 12.69% of operating time and consequently the rate of utilization of these trucks reached 87.31% and its productivity to 414.47 tons per hour at the period, causing the increase in costs for blasting, loading and hauling the area to $ 1,505,057.84 being the unit cost per ton equals $0.61 dollars. Being necessary to evaluate and analyze whether the current process of controlled blasting, loading and hauling is adequate to reality of Operations area’s chargers assigned to operate on short routes and the number of trucks used. Demonstrating that the new type of blasting provides a better rock fragmentation degree, achieving a reduction between 32.13% and 36.32%. Furthermore, through the simulation of the loading and hauling system with 1 charger and 2 trucks it was noted the low utilization of the row waiting location 0.13% with an average of 0 trucks waiting to be served and a maximum of contents equal to 1 . While the average haulage time was reduced to 3.13 minutes which represents a reduction of 18.49%, being the unit cost per ton of the same period equal to $ 0.38 dollars obtaining a reduction of 37.70% over the last quarter of 2013. In short, the improvement of the loading and hauling system reduces Operations area’s costs ensuring compliance effectively and efficiently of the plan mine closure of waste material motion to the dump for short routes.
