ABSTRACT The aim of this thesis was to determine the relationship between optimization of road geometric characteristics and walkability of the road: Divert Yunguy - Yunguy province of Huaral, Lima region. That is, through the optimization of horizontal alignment, vertical alignment, and the implementation of appropriate cross section, determine to what extent these variables influence the walkability of the track (dependent variable). The issue focuses on those country roads or dirt roads, which emplaced in rugged terrain and adapt to the inflections of the land, do not have optimum characteristic of their geometric elements, highlighting a need for improvement in the design of these tract. contrary to what happens in most urban roads case. For identifying existing defects in this pathway, it has been used methods of observation through surveying instruments. While for design optimization, it has made use of CAD software, and as a technical reference guide, design guidelines recommended by the Ministry of Transport and Communications by geometric design manual. The research project has been kind of application because it has made use of procedures and tools recommended by the Manual of Peruvian design in solving such deficiencies and / or problems in the process with these characteristics. The results are proof of the positive relationship between the variables indicated. In principle it identified all sectors with geometric deficiencies in plan, longitudinal profile and cross section, and through optimization of these elements has been quantified by coefficients to what extent is related to the dependent variable called the transitability route. In addition to this, as part of the discussion of results, it is included proposals and suggestions in general, alternative solutions of specialties that are not part of the research of the thesis, but that complement the overall design of a road (drainage , proposed signage and pavement). All this information is included in the annex attached hereto.
