The present research aims to discover areas where wetlands exist as a potential source of aquifers in the Cajamarca basin by analyzing Landsat images. This involves inexpensive work where the technology (remote sensing) through satellite images can perform a survey from a small to a large area. The methodology is based on processing Landsat satellite images in Arcgis 10.8 and Envi 5.3 software, thus obtaining thematic maps to identify areas with water recharge and accumulation on slopes with lower grade, thus acquiring information on normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI), slope, surface temperature. In the result of the analysis of the maps it is possible to observe extensive areas with healthy vegetation, areas with lower probability of groundwater existence, where it has been influenced by the permeability of the rock and the density of drainage, and in greater proportion by the slope of the land very favorable for infiltration and groundwater concentration, concluding with this study that if it is possible to identify areas with aquifer potential after interpreting the indices obtained in the thematic maps, therefore, these remote sensing techniques helped to identify potential wetland areas.
