The objective of this research was to determine the relationship between the motivation for work and the work performance of employees of a Public Institution of Trujillo. The research had a correlational type design. The sample consisted of 53 collaborators between men and women of the Institute of Legal Medicine of the Public Ministry of the city of Trujillo. The techniques used to investigate the motivational factors of the collaborators was the application of the Questionnaire of Motivation for Work of Fernando Toro Álvarez, which collected perceptions, judgments and expressions of motivation and was made up of 15 factors that allow identifying and assessing the motivation towards work. While to identify the level of performance in the collaborators was used the record of the qualification of Labor Performance provided by the Central Management area of Human Potential. The motivational factors with evidence of direct correlation were Self-realization and Achievement of the Internal Motivational Conditions dimension; Dedication to the Task, and Acceptance of Standards and Values of the Preferred Means dimension to obtain Desired Remuneration; and Salary and Promotion of the External Motivational Conditions dimension with the Labor Performance.
