The present work is carried out to determine and to compare in a theoretical way the capacity to flex – compression of square columns of reinforced concrete without reinforcing and reinforced by the addition of the external confinement with blankets of carbon fiber. To demonstrate theoretically whether the external reinforcement with carbon fiber generates increase of axial load and flexion; This will be verified with the construction of the flexo – compression curve of the columns, these graphs will be based on the methodology followed in the book of Reinforced Concrete Structures of R.Park and T. Paulay; The flexo – compression curve of the reinforced concrete column versus the flexo – compression curve of an externally reinforced reinforced concrete column with carbon fiber will be constructed and verified if it generates increments. The curves will be constructed for the resistance of reinforced concrete of f'c = 210 kg/cm2; The typical section of reinforced concrete, square section, will be used. It is mentioned that the graphs of the flexo – compression curve are two examples (See Annex 02) for the compressive strength of concrete f'c = 210 and square section of column of reinforced concrete. The main confinement models applied to a reinforced column section are analyzed in order to use the German standard “GERMAN COMMISSION FOR ARMED CONCRETE“ (DAfStb - Deutsche Ausschuss für Stahlbeton), which is based on the curves Of Liam and Teng which will be used as a guide for the construction of the flexo – compression graphs of the given column sections.
