The expansive soils of high plasticity through the years have caused material and economic losses in all parts of the world. Clay soils tend to have volume changes when they are moistened, causing settlements, decreased shear strength and bearing capacity. The main objective of this work is to identify and classify the expansive clayey soils of high plasticity of the educational institution 003 Nuestra Señora del Rosario in the district of San Martin de Porres. The present investigation is carried out through the observation of already existing facts, situations that cannot be manipulated. The independent variables are not controlled arbitrarily, in turn it is descriptive, therefore, it is a non-experimental investigation of a descriptive type. (Hernández-Sampieri, Fernández & Baptista, 2014). In order to develop this research project, several phases had to be carried out, among them we have one of the field phase, where the exploration works are carried out in order to know the types and characteristics of the subsoil. The field investigations were closely linked to the soil that was found. The exploration was carried out through 4 open pits, these were located in such a way that the entire area to be studied could be covered. The depths reached were 4.00m. The number of pits was made according to the client's requirements, this in such a way as to have an adequate stratigraphy and to have representative samples of the area to be investigated. Subsequently, laboratory studies were carried out, based on standards given by ASTM and standard E.50, where the most important are granulometric analysis, moisture content, specific gravity, LL, LP, IP, natural density, relative density, tests free and controlled expansion. When processing the results of the different tests carried out, there are SM type soils, silty sands, mixtures of sand and silt, CL which are inorganic clays with low or medium plasticity, SP which are poorly graded sands, sand with gravel, with little or no fines, SP-SM, which are medium dense silty sands, not plastic. In pit C2, for a depth of 0.80 m to 1.67 m, there is thin clay, with little presence of dry roots, and for a depth of 1.67 m to 2.40 m, there is thin clay with sand, yellowish to dark brown, medium hard. , little wet. 0.0% gravel: 17.6% sand and 82.4% fines. In pit C3, for a depth of 1.45 m to 2.90 m, there is thin clay with sand, yellow-orange in color, in a hard state, moderately humid. 0.0% gravel, 24.8% sand, and 75.2% fines. In pit C4, for a depth of 1.55 m to 1.75 m, there is a clay lens. You have IP that range from 13% to 23%, and in some cases N.P. Regarding soil expansion, there is 1,610% and 3,820% free expansion, which indicates that it has a very low expansion potential. For controlled expansion, there are 0.583 Kg/cm2 and 0.261 Kg/cm2, which indicates that it has a low degree of expansiveness.
