J-pop is more present in the anime fan’s day-to-day than it is often talked about and it is a topic which have not been given great importance in academic papers related to the otaku. Thus, this paper seeks to help understand how J-pop works in the present does, dealing with topics like its history; social, technological, and industry context; musical characteristics; and organology. The present investigation also looks after enumerating and giving evidence of different ways of which J-pop is consumed today in the United States and Latin America be it through western artists, the otaku community, or Lima anime events. Through manifestations of artists who are inspired by J-pop or other elements of Japanese popular culture such as anime, we can extend the ways in which J-pop is transmitted to the American and Latin-American audience. In the case of the otaku community, it appropriates and recreates J-pop in its own style, with characteristics that depends on the new performer. In the case of the events, J-pop is offered next to K-pop to the same public, generating an unique proposal.
