This study focused on the evaluation of meteorological drought in the province of Tayacaja Huancavelica during the period from 2000 to 2021. To do this, meteorological drought events in the region were identified using gridded data from the CHRIPS model and the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) was calculated to determine the frequency and spatial distribution of drought. In addition, the hazard and vulnerability levels of meteorological drought in the province were determined, which allowed the risk levels to be calculated using the SATTY hierarchical analysis methodology. Assessing these levels is crucial to understanding the magnitude and likelihood of meteorological drought impacts in the region, as well as developing mitigation and adaptation strategies. The results indicate that the province of Tayacaja-Huancavelica has experienced meteorological drought events during the study period, and that these events are more frequent during the months of April to September. Furthermore, areas of high drought vulnerability were identified in the region, suggesting the need to develop drought management strategies to reduce negative impacts on the economy and society. Overall, the results of this study can be useful for decision makers and planners in the Tayacaja-Huancavelica region to develop drought management policies and strategies that reduce negative impacts on the economy and society. Meteorological drought risk assessment is important to identify the most vulnerable areas and populations and to develop drought mitigation and adaptation strategies.
