The purpose of this research is to explore and analyze the scientific language and neologisms in the subtitling from English to both Peninsular and Latin American Spanish in the science fiction films Interstellar (2014) and Contact (1997). In order to have a basis on the contrastive analysis of these two films, it is proposed to tackle multimodal and theoretical approaches to audiovisual translation and science fiction as a literary genre, highlighting authors such as Chaume, Hurtado, etc. It also investigates the translation strategies and techniques employed to tackle the complexities of scientific terms and the creative linguistic aspects inherent to the science fiction genre. This research aims to preserve both scientific accuracy and cultural coherence in the subtitled versions of these movies. These two films reflect a great interest in the public since they show scientific realism in an impressive way through audiovisual media, leaving the audience with the questioning and intrigue of knowing what lies beyond our planet. The reason for the choice of these two films is because of the exploration and representation of complex scientific concepts such as wormholes, general relativity, event horizons, alien life, etc. Taking into account these concepts, the aim of this research is to analyze how scientific language and neologisms are translated into the two variants of Spanish most used in audiovisual translation (AVT) at a narrative, lexical and morphosyntactic level.
