In the financial sector, mobile applications are essential tools that enable clients to manage their accounts, make purchases, and access various banking services. It is imperative to adhere to stringent security standards, as well as relevant laws and regulations, to ensure the protection and integrity of users' personal data. A lack of adequate security can result in the loss of customer trust and potential litigation due to the exposure of sensitive information, such as personal details and bank card numbers. This research paper documents a cyberattack on a financial entity, highlighting the vulnerabilities identified in the mobile application through an OSSTMM analysis and the solutions provided to mitigate the risk of future similar attacks. To counteract cyberattacks, possible symmetric encryption algorithms were defined to be implemented through a service call, among which AES-256 (Advanced Encryption Standard) was prominent. Additionally, integration with a facial biometrics service provider was included, resulting in a multi-factor authentication (MFA) system as an access control measure for application users.
