Introduction: Nutritional status prior to surgery has significant effects on health and the process of recovery from illness. Both over- and under-nutrition are common among hospitalised children. Objectives: To identify the association between nutritional status and possible complications in paediatric patients operated on for acute appendicitis laparoscopically at the Hospital de Alta Complejidad Virgen de la Puerta de EsSalud - Trujillo between 2019-2022. Materials and Methods: An investigation was carried out with a sample of 37 paediatric patients with an adequate nutritional status before the operation, while another group of 74 patients had a poor nutritional condition before the operation, and their complications were analysed. Results: The mean age was 9 years; the female sex was 32 (28.8%) and 79 (71.2%) were male. Postoperative complications according to inadequate nutritional status were higher incidence of residual abscesses than patients with adequate nutritional status (8.1% vs 5.4%), prolonged ileus and surgical site infection had higher incidence in the inadequate nutritional status group (8.1% and 13.5%) compared to the adequate group (6.8% and 5.4%). However, no statistically significant difference was found for the population. Inadequate nutritional status had a higher proportion of prolonged stay compared to adequate (32.4% vs. 14.9%). Such difference was statistically significant for the sample (p=0.034). Conclusions: Prolonged length of stay was higher in patients with inadequate nutritional status
