Objective: To determine the factors associated with weight loss in term newborns during the first 7 postnatal days at Hospital II Jorge Reátegui Delgado,Piura during the months of JULY-DECEMBER 2023. Materials and Methods: A retrospective, analytical, cross-sectional case control study design was used. A sample of 308 newborns was included, who met the established inclusion criteria. These patients were included in the exposed or non-exposed group until the sample size was completed, which was 308 newborns. Results: In the study conducted at Hospital II Jorge Reátegui Delgado in Piura during the months of JULY-DECEMBER 2023 regarding factors associated with abnormal weight loss in term newborns, several significant associations were found. Regarding general characteristics, the average maternal age was 29.21 years, with a varied distribution in maternal parity, showing significant differences in the percentage of weight loss concerning parity. No significant association was found between type of delivery and abnormal weight loss (p = 1.000). The number of prenatal check-ups and the intergenesic period of mothers showed significant associations with abnormal weight loss in newborns. Regarding neonatal factors, the presence of sepsis (p = 0.002) and jaundice (p = 0.001) were significantly associated with a higher percentage of weight loss, while hospital stay, type of feeding, and neonatal sex showed no significant associations with abnormal weight loss (p > 0.05). These results highlight the importance of considering multiple maternal and neonatal factors in the assessment and prevention of abnormal weight loss in term newborns. Conclusions: The conclusions emphasize the complexity of factors influencing neonatal weight, such as diversity in maternal parity and intergenesic periods, along with the importance of a comprehensive approach in prenatal and neonatal care. The significant association between maternal parity and weight loss underscores the relevance of obstetric history, while the relationship between sepsis and neonatal jaundice underscores the need for early intervention. Although other factors did not show significant associations, their consideration remains crucial in the comprehensive evaluation of neonatal weight and newborn health
