The aim the present investigation was to compare the total caloric contribution, the contribution from macronutrients, the percentage adequacy, and portion size by food group of the most consumed menus in restaurants of different Socioeconomic Status (SES). This research is a secondary analysis of a database called the “Survey to Measure the Nutritional Composition of Main Foods Consumed Outside the Home 2013 (ECONUT)” (INEI and CENAN 2015). The research was observational, analytical, and cross-sectional. The sample consisted of 1646 menus. Four databases were merged to obtain the net raw weight per food portion, using various mathematical equations, Atwater conversion factors, and food group equivalences in SPSS v.26 software. The data were subjected to ANOVA, which showed significant differences between caloric contribution and SES: A and E (p<0.001); A and D (p<0.001); and A and C (p<0.001). Pearson correlation was then performed, demonstrating that SES influenced the caloric contribution of the menus (p<0.001), with an inverse and very low-intensity direction (r= -0.147). The excess calories mainly came from Carbohydrates (CHO). CHO adequacy was excessive, in greater proportion, for low SES; however, Protein (Prot.) adequacy was higher in the high strata and Lipids (Lip.) adequacy was deficient for the lower strata. Furthermore, the ideal portion size by food group for lunch was exceeded by Group I (Cereals, tubers, and legumes); Group IV (Meats, fish, or eggs); and Group VI (Sugars and derivatives), while Group II (Vegetables), Group III (Fruits), and Group VII (Fats, oils, and oilseeds) did not meet the recommended portion. Finally, the Kruskal-Wallis’s test was applied to compare by SES, and significant differences were found for Group I (p<0.001), Group II (p=0.005), Group III (p<0.001), and Group VI (p=0.015). In conclusion, the menus of all strata exceeded the total caloric contribution, but the lower strata did so to a greater extent, due to the inadequate portion size of carbohydrate-rich foods.
