-- It was looked for to determine if a population that is devoted to the diving like professional practice is a Risk Factor to present Temporomandibular Dysfunctions (TMD). This population was conformed 35 members of Peruvian Navy that are devoted mainly to diving activities. The results were compared with a population of 35 patients with similar characteristic (they don't carry out the diving activity) that served as Control Group. In total they were investigated 70 individuals. It was used the Helkimo Index like instrument of gathering data. For the statistical analysis the Parametric Statistical Inference has been used “Differs of Proportions“ and the Risk Factor has been measured by means of the “ODDS RATIO“ to 95% IC. 91.42% of divers object of the study presents TMD, while 85.71% of individuals of the Control Group presents TMD. The divers have 1.77 more possibilities to present TMD (Risk Factor) that the individuals of the control group, but the difference is not statistically significant (P=0.451 / Z=-0.75); on the other hand the divers have 4.07 more possibilities to present Moderate - Severe TMD (Risk Factor) with differences statistically significant (P=0.007 / Z=-2.71). As for Light TMD, the divers don't have possibilities to present (Protection Factor) with differences statistically significant (P=0.047 / Z=1.99). The conclusion arrives to that the diving activity is a Risk Factor for the Severity Grade of TMD.
