--- Species of genre Schistocerca, commonly known as “locust,” is a plague that causes great economical losses in agriculture. In Peru, Schistocerca piceifrons peruviana L.A., also known as migratory locust, causes severe damage in the regions where it lives (Ayacucho, Huancavelica, Apurimac, and Cusco). The goal of this work was to isolate and determine the entomicidal capability of Beauveria spp. on Schistocerca piceifrons peruviana Lynch Arribalzaga 1903. Isolation and morphological characterization four strains of Beauveria spp. ABvPr11, ABvPr8, ABvPr3, and ABvSr4 were possible; and evaluated their entomicidal capability on Schistocerca piceifrons peruviana L.A. The ABvPr11, ABvPr3, and ABvSr4 strains showed colonies with white cotton-like mycelia, beige dust-like spores production, sinema formation and diffusion of yellow pigments in the medium. In the case of the ABvPr8 strain, mycelia appearance was also cotton-like but not all over the surface. The conidiogenous cells tend to form dense clusters; conidias are hyaline, one-celled between globose and ovoid shape as observed in the microscope. While evaluating the entomicidal activity of the four strains on the locust it was found that using solutions of 108 conidias/mL mortality percentage was 100% for all the strains. For ABvPr11, ABvPr8, ABvSr4 y ABvPr3 strains, needed times in eliminating 100% locust were 12, 14, 14 y 16 days respectively. In the tenth day significant differences were shown with regard to the mortality between ABvPr11(90%) and ABvSr4 (74%), ABvPr8 (72%), ABvPr3 (64.6%) strains. Lately, lethalithy time was determinated for the 50% (TL50) of the locust population: ranging from 8.38 to 9,16 days. Lethality time for the 80% (TL80) ranged from 9,6 to 11,5 days. The ABvPr11 strain presented the greatest biocidal activity for the Schistocerca piceifrons peruviana L.A control.
