Sjögren's syndrome is a systemic autoimmune disease of undetermined etiology, characterized by lymphocytic infiltration of the exocrine glands. Tear and salivary glands are the main organs affected, causing the classic symptoms of dryness: xerophthalmia and xerostomia. It is a worldwide disease, which does not know its exact prevalence. The SS should be evaluated from a multidisciplinary perspective, with active participation of the rheumatologist, ophthalmologist and dentist. The minor salivary gland biopsy technique is considered as the main criteria for the diagnosis of Sjögren's syndrome, is of low complexity and tolerated by patients. We conducted a descriptive review of 100 medical records of patients who presented to Surgical Stomatology Arzobispo Loayza National Hospital in the period 2008 to 2012, with minor salivary gland biopsy to confirm the diagnosis of Sjögren's syndrome. The objective of this research is to determine the prevalence of patients with SS and emphasize the clinical importance and necessity of early diagnosis by biopsy of minor salivary glands. We found a high prevalence of the disease and prevalence in women in the fifth decade of life. However, no relationship was found between gender and age group with Sjögren's disease. Key words: Sjögren’s Syndrome, prevalence, minor salivary gland biopsy.
