--- The neosporosis is a parasitosis that has importance in the diary cattle. The infection has been associated with reproductive problems as abortions and mortality neonatal. The aim of this study was determine the presence of antibodies against Neospora caninum in water buffaloes coming from five breeders located in Jenaro Herrera district, Loreto, 2008. 83 sera samples, obtained from female dairy buffaloes, were tested by using indirect ELISA and indirect fluorescent antibody test (IFAT). None of sera (0/83) presented antibodies against N. caninum to the dilution 1:25 and 1:100 using indirect ELISA; neither to the dilution 1:100 by IFAT. These results suggest a low exposition of water buffaloes to parasites in the studied area. The present work is the first to report serological evidence of Neospora caninum infection in peruvian water buffaloes, being necessary to carry out more studies that confirm these results. Keywords: Neospora caninum, water buffaloes, antibodies, ELISA, IFI.
