--- This research is a descriptive, cross-sectional and reprospective study whose aim is to analyze the utilization of antipsychotic’s combination for treatment of paranoid schizophrenia of patients of Mental Health Eduardo Rebagliati Martins Hospital for the period January 2013 - August 2013, and identify possible deviations in use. A sample of 125 male patients was selected, which had ages between 18 to 78 years who were hospitalized in the Service of General Psychiatry. Their drug prescriptions were 2 or more antipsychotics. For this study, documents as medical records, reports and pharmacy informatics as sources of information needed to characterize the patient sample and the evaluation of prescription practices, consumption and consequences of treatment were used. The study was able to characterize paranoid schizophrenia in the population studied and also was able to identify the causes of readmissions of patients relapsing. We identified that the requirements mostly not based on clinical guidelines, but in the expert judgment of health professionals and in 81 % of prescriptions are administered on appropriate doses. The levomepromazina is the drug most commonly prescribed and the antipsychotic risperidone is consumed in greater amounts, according to the DDD established by WHO in the treatment stage. Between 70% and 90 % of patients receiving polypharmacy in relation to all patients admitted to the service, in which antipsychotics have good efficacy in controlling negative and positive symptoms. The results of adhesion and good response (68% and 65 % of cases, respectively) correlate to treatment with a suitable scheme prescription and only in 4.8% of patients have resulted in adverse reactions and 72 % of patients may develop drug interactions and has been described by the scientific literature. Key words: schizophrenia paranoid, treatment, antipsychotics, utilization of medicines
