Objective: To determine the perception of the patient about humanized care birth. in the Obstetrics Service Center of the National Maternal and Perinatal Institute during the period from March to April 2015. Methodology: Observational, descriptive, cross-sectional and prospective study. The sample consisted of 100 immediate time postpartum women treated at the National Maternal and Perinatal Institute during the period from March to April 2015. In the descriptive analysis of quantitative variables measures of central tendency and dispersion were estimated; for qualitative variables, absolute and relative frequencies were calculated. Results: The perception of the patient about humanized care birth was determined by four dimensions: professional treatment, choice of birth position, accompaniment and pain management in delivery care. In professional treatment dimension: the patients perceived that there always existed communication with the professional (82.0%), it was always explained what the labor consisted (81.0%), it was always identified by its name (59%), it was always explained the procedures performed (80%), its privacy was always respected (78%), it was always asked permission before any examination (83%), and it was always perceived helpfulness of professional (73%). In the dimension of free choice of the position birth, patients said they were never explained that they could choose the position of its birth (75%), they never taught delivery positions (79%) and they never explained that they could wander during labor (75%). In the accompaniment dimension: 73% was explained about the decision to have a companion in its delivery, 58% always perceived that the companion had to help them to relax. The humanized birth in its dimension pain management: 35% always perceived that the available alternatives for pain management were explained. In general 35% of patients perceived humanized delivery care properly performed; however 53% perceived that their care delivery was a regular level. Conclusions: More than half of new mothers perceived humanized care delivery in a regular level, where communication, explanation of procedures and respect for privacy were adequate perceptions, unlike the free choice of birth position.
