--- Objective: to determine the regenerative effect of the aqueous Linumusitatissimum(ground flaxseed) extract on the gastric mucous membranes with induced ulcer with ethanol in rats. Design: experimental study, analytical, prospective. Institution: Research Centre of Biochemistry and Nutrition Alberto GuzmánBarrón, Medicine Faculty, San Marcos National University (Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos). Biological material: Seeds of Linunusitatissimum (Ground flaxseed) and Holtzman rats. Intervention: 48 male rats of the species were used, with a weight of 200-230 gr. The ulcer was induced using the technique proposed by Robert (1979). The inducement was provoked with 70% alcohol that was administered perorally, by cannulation, in a dose of 10 mL/kg. The rats were submitted to a previous fast of 24-hours, later weighted and randomly distributed in 6 groups (n=8), three of which were control groups and three experimental groups to which ethanol 10 mL/kg was administered to induct the ulcer and later was administered the aqueous extract of ground flaxseed 2 mL/kg for 3 days to the first group, aqueous extract of ground flaxseed 5 mL/kg for 3 days to the second group and aqueous extract of ground flaxseed 10 mL/kg for 3 days to the third group. The macroscopic evaluation was made with the Marhuenda Scale. The tissues were preserved in 10% formalin for its histopathological study by staining hematoxylin-eosiba. The data obtained were processed used the statistical package SPSS version Nº 19. Results: the results obtained, in a significance level of p<0,001, indicate that the level of gastric injury decreases sensibly, particularly in the V group (aqueous extract of ground flaxseed 5 mL/kg) and the level of mucous increases significantly, in this group as well. Conclusions: the statistical analyses made let us conclude that the aqueous extract of ground flaxseed influences significantly in the regeneration of the gastric mucous. Key words: gastric ulcer, ground flaxseed extract, antiulcer agents.
