--- Objective: Establish the degree of association between presenting urinary tract infection (UTI) and preeclampsia in pregnant at the National Teaching Hospital Mother Child (HONADOMANI) San Bartolomé de Lima - Peru during the period 2010 - 2015. Methods: We performed an Analytical, relational, retrospective study of cases and controls in a total of 436 pregnant women who were hospitalized in the HONADOMANI San Bartolomé, Lima, Perú, during the period 2010 - 2015. The cases were randomly selected and they comprised 218 pregnant women with preeclampsia diagnosis and results of urine exam and/or urocultivo at the time of hospital admission or during hospitalization. Controls included 218 pregnant paired by age with cases in a relation of 1: 1 and not presented diagnosis of preeclampsia. Descriptive and analytical statistics of cases and controls was performed and calculated OR and confidence interval 95%. Results: Cases were urinary tract infection in 19.2% and controls 7.8%. As for the general characteristics of the samples we have, the mean age was 29.0 +/- 6.6 years and the mean weight was 72 +/- 12 kg both in the case group and the control group. On the other hand statistically significant differences between the mean height (p <0.001), number of pregnancies (p = 0.001) and type of delivery (p <0.001) was found between the two samples. In addition pregnant women with severe preeclampsia were significantly more frequently (41%) of urinary tract infection compared to the group of pregnant women with mild preeclampsia (7%) with p <0.001. There is significant association (p <0.001) between ITU and preeclampsia presenting with an OR of 2.82 [CI: 1.5 - 5.1]. Conclusions: Pregnant women with preeclampsia have 2.82 times more likely to have urinary infection compared with patients without preeclampsia in the National Teaching Hospital San Bartolomé Mother Child during the period 2010-2015.
