-- Introduction: Informed consent reflects respect for the autonomy and patient rights. It is a significant problem that doctors and interns do not really know the reason for this procedure and do not this use it properly. Objective: To assess the level of knowledge about informed consent in medical practice in interns. Methods: Cross sectional study to took place at Dos de Mayo National Hospital with internal medicine. A questionnaire consisting of 20 questions. The questionnaire was administered to 51 interns who met the eligibility criteria. We calculated summary measures, tables and graphs. Estaninos test stratified the knowledge level of informed consent. We used the chi square test and exact test Ficher to find association between the variables. Results: 52.9% were women and 47.1% men, from six universities: 2 public with 50.9% interns and 4 private with 49.1%. Only 25 interns had high level of knowledge, 18 medium and 8 low. 61.54% interns of public university and 36% of private achieved a high level of knowledge. The dimensions concept, objectives and fundamentals were the best known. 52.9% achieved high level of knowledge about the extent and application model. Significant association between the level of knowledge about informed consent “medium-high“ and “low“ and belonging to a public or private university. Conclusions: 49% of interns at Dos de Mayo National Hospital reached high level of knowledge about informed consent in medical practice, 35.3% medium and 15.7% low. -- Keywords: Knowledge, informed consent, medicine interns.
