The skeleton is one of the most frequent sites of bony metastasis. The role of the surgícal treatment and the different techniques for reconstruction have not been defined very clearly. We studied 32 operated patients, with appendicle bony metastasis in the HINIERIVI. The objectives of the present study were to determine the surgical treatments used for the appendicle bony metastasis and to identify the primary origin and the preferred site of the bony metastasis. Primary origin was found on kidney, breast and prostate in most of the cases. The proximal femur was the location most often found (56%). 90% of the metastasis from renal origin had unique location. Prosthetic replacement was the preferred surgical treatment. Life expectancy to 6 months was 55%; meanwhile the immediate functional result was quite favorable. Improvements, in the oncology handling and surgical treatment of patients with bony metastasis have been result in an increase of the survival rate and in offering a better quality of life.
