-- This study was carried out to evaluate the pregnancy rate in alpacas inseminated with fresh semen and that were induced to ovulation with seminal plasma or a GnRH analogue (Acetate of buserelin). The study was developed from January to April in 2009. In experiment, sixty four alpacas with breeding were selected based on the criterion of the presence of follicle ≥ 7 mm by ultrasound. Animals were fed with natural pasture and they received the same handling conditions, they were distributed at random one of the two treatments: G1 (n=32) 2 ml of seminal plasma by intramuscular injection or G2 (n=32) 1 ml of GnRH (0.0042 Acetate of buserelin). After 27 hours of application of treatments, artificial insemination was performed at a dose of 1 ml of fresh dilutedsemen with a mean sperm concentration of 130 x 106 / ml and sperm motility ≥ 65%. Alpacas were evaluated by ultrasound at Day 2 post treatment to determinate rate ovulation and at Day 25 were evaluated to diagnose pregnancy. In experiment 2, were selected 10 alpacas with follicles ≥ 7 mm, which were administered intramuscularly 2 ml of seminal plasma (n=5) or 1 ml of a GnRH analogue (n=5). At 8 day post application, ultrasounds were performed to measure the diameter of the corpus luteum. Results of experiment 1 point out a rate ovulation of 100% for the seminal plasma group and 90.6% for the GnRH and pregnancy rate at day 25 were 75.0% and 53.1% for groups G1 y G2, respectively (p<0.05). In experiment 2, the size of the corpus luteum in alpacas induced to ovulation with seminal plasma 15.2 ± 1.1 mm and GnRH was 12.6 ± 2.1 mm. Results of present study suggest that administration of seminal plasma induce 100 % ovulation in alpacas and improve a pregnancy rate in inseminated animals for a better luteotropic effect in the formation of corpus luteum. -- Key words: Alpacas, seminal plasma, ovulation induced, artificial insemination, pregnancy.
