--- Dactylopius coccus Costa, Dactylopiidae: Hemiptera, is a parasitic insect of the cactaceous ones and is very appreciated by its carminic acid content product that is profiteer by the man for many centuries. With the development of the biotechnology, the demand of carminic acid has been increased, reason why they have come developing different methodologies with the purpose of to improve the production of the same. Cytogenetic is a basic tool for the improvement of species, besides its utility in other areas like evolutionary systematic, and genetic engineering, this type of investigations in the cochineal of the carmine one are of much importance for Peru because it is the first producer of carmine at world-wide level. In the present work karyotype of Dactylopius coccus Costa was determined, obtaining itself that its diploide number is 2n=16 chromosomes, all is holocentric and falls gradually in size from the first homologous pair to the last one. Also the mitosis was characterized, that is particular by the holocentric nature of the chromosomes and when studying in embryonic cells the heterochromatinization like mechanism of determination of sex was observed, where the condensation of the chromosomes is homogenous in females and heterogeneous in males. The observed processes of poliploidy seem to be related to the development of the embryo. Finally the possible presence of micronuclei was observed, which is indicating from environmental contamination in the zone of collection.
