The use of the biological medicines infliximab, etanercept y rituximab was studied in the service of Rheumatology in the National Hospital Edgardo Rebagliati Martins, analyzing the profile of consumption of the biological drugs used in that service in the treatment of the rheumatic diseases. The study is descriptive, retrospective and of it cross section in a sample of 33 patients who received these medicines during the period of january of 2006 to june 2007. The study was divided in 3 parts: Quantitative study of consumption and related costs, showed increase of the consumption in year 2007 with respect to the 2006, as well as the greater cost of the treatment with infliximab in all the diseases dealt with this, with respect to the other biological ones. In the Study of Habits of medical Prescription was a relation diagnosis – treatment of 83%. In the Study of the Consequences of use of these medicines was good answer for all the treatments in 78% of the cases, also they appeared suspension of treatments and changes of therapy with infliximab. Adverse reactions to the medicine in the infusion of infliximab and rituximab took place in 17% of the treatments and the respiratory infection was the most frequent between the reported infections (46% of the total of treatments).
