---The most common danger in relation to the water of human consumption is that of its contaminaion, direct or indirectly, due to the action of residual waters, excrete of the man and animals, besides physiochemical and environmental factors. The present work had as objectives to improve the existent requirements to perfect the standards of quality of the water of human use, isolate other possible indicators microorganism of the microbial quality of the water and to evaluate the microbiological quality of the water of human consumption in Metropolitan Lima. The work was made between June and December of the year 2000. 224 samples of water of the storage system and distribution of water in properties and 56 samples of water coming from wells were analyzed. Of these, 40 (17,86%) samples of water of properties and 41 (73,68%) samples coming from wells didn´t comply the microbiological norms. Besides the traditional indicators, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and faecal streptococci were found, being these microorganisms in many of the cases in absence of coliforms. In conclusion, these two indicators microorganisms can be used as complementary indicators of the quality of the water of human use.
