--- The present study used the pig as an animal model in the treatment of the human cysticercosis. Specifically, we studied the combined effect of Albendazole (ALB), Praziquantel (PZQ) and Prednisone (PDN) on the larval stage of Taenia solium. For such reason, 36 pigs naturally infected with cysts of T. Solium were used, whose infection was verified with the tongue test and EITB test. The animals were distributed of homogenous form in 6 groups: the group 0 (control), group 1 (ALB + PZQ +PDN), group 2 (ALB + PDN), group 3 (PZQ), group 4 (1/2 ALB +PZQ +PDN) and group 5 (ALB + PZQ + PDN). ALB was administered at 15 mg/kg every 12 hours for 7 days, PQZ at 75 mg/kg divided in 3 times at 25 mg/kg every two hours for a single day, and PDN at 0,5 mg/kg every 24 hours for 5 days. Pigs were killed between the weeks ninth and tenth. The efficacy of the drugs was evaluated by means of the test of evagination of cysts extracted of muscles, tongue and heart. We registered the adverse side effects by clinical evaluation of the animals every day. The study determined greater effectiveness for the groups that included to the ALB in their schemes of treatment (87.00% - 100%) in comparison the group that only used PQZ and to the control group (35.5% - 47.00%). However, was not statistically significant difference between the groups that included ALB in their schemes of treatment, therefore, the combined effect of ALB and PQZ did not show greater advantages as opposed to the classic scheme of ALB and PDN. Visible adverse side effects were noted in all the schemes of treatment with exception of the group 4 in which 1/2 doses of ALB was administered.
