Abstract: Introducción y Objetivos: La evidencia científica muestra que muchas enfermedades se pueden evitar aplicando medidas preventivas a nivel poblacional, a través de programas permanentes de educación, que sean de amplia cobertura. Los estudiantes de ciencias de la salud son un grupo de gran importancia, debido a que el impacto que se pueda tener sobre sus conductas va a influir en el desarrollo de estilos de vida que influyan en sus acciones profesionales posteriores. Es importante, entonces, saber qué conocimientos y conductas presentan los internos de ciencias de la salud, para aportar elementos útiles a la planificación de intervenciones educativas que favorezcan el desarrollo de estilos de vida saludables.
Materiales y Métodos: El propósito de este estudio fue evaluar el conocimiento adquirido y conductas desarrolladas en salud bucal de 158 estudiantes de ciencias de la salud de la UNMSM durante el último año de su carrera universitaria de la Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos de Lima, Perú, por medio de una encuesta de percepción que constó de 10 preguntas de información de conducta personal, y 10 de conocimientos sobre salud bucal. Resultados: El nivel de conocimiento alcanzó el 80.4% de internos un nivel regular en conjunto y también dentro de cada escuela resultó el mismo nivel de forma mayoritaria; por otro lado el nivel de conducta alcanzó el 75.9% en un nivel regular en conjunto además de resultar el mismo nivel para las 5 escuelas de manera independiente; encontramos también al realizar la correlación de spearman entre el nivel de conocimiento según el nivel de conducta, una correlación positiva interdependiente.
Conclusiones: Las conductas adquiridas durante su formación universitaria fueron similares independiente de la escuela académica; las respuestas estuvieron basadas en conocimientos previos a la participación del mismo, por ello se le debe dar un mayor protagonismo en el programa al área de salud bucal.
Introduction and objectives: The scientific evidence shows that a lot of diseases should be prevented by groups with education programs with wide knowledge. The health sciences students are one of the more important people group because their behavior will impact into their professional lives. In fact is so necessary to know the level of their oral health knowledge and behavior to add useful tools on their education to get a life style better. Materials and methods: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the knowledge and behavior acquired in buccal health of 158 science health students of San Marcos University from Lima, Peru during their last year of students life at the university, by means of a survey of perception that consisted of 10 questions of personal behavior information and about and 10 of oral health knowledge. Results: The knowledge level was regular (80.4%) and the same result was found in the 5 professional schools, the behavior level was regular (75.9%) and the same result was found in the 5 professional schools. Whit the spearman correlation test between knowledge level by behavior level was found a positive correlation ship. Summations: The acquired knowledge during the university program were similar independent of the group of the professional school; and according to the results one can say that the answers were based on previous knowledge to the participation of the same one, in and of itself a bigger protagonism should be given in the program to the area of buccal health.
