The present study is an experiment that attempts to verify the effects of a Program called Metaphonological Skills: “Playing with Sounds,” in children who are from 8 to 10 years of age, in the third and fourth grades, and who belong in the socioeconomic low level. This program has been prepared from the theoretical model of cognitive learning and psycholinguistics, which attempts to improve student skill with learning disabilities. Students were evaluated on the effect of the above mentioned program on the proper phonological conscience, especially of the phonemic conscience across his four tasks: synthesis, to isolate, analyze, and omit, reading decodification, and reading comprehension. This study also sought to observe the behavior of other variables, including gender, age, and intelligence. Pupils also were evaluated at three educational institutions in the Fence of the Callao that do not present sensory, motive or intellectual problems, Students were divided into experimental and control groups and the results were compared using data obtained throughout the study and again after six months to evaluate the quality and validity of this program and systemic intervention. The studies of pretest revealed a low level yield in phonological conscience, decodification and reading comprehension, however children who shaped the experimental group improved significantly in their level of phonological conscience, both in their global evaluation of metalinguistic skills, and one of their subtests: phonemic synthesis, ability to isolate phonemes, to differentiate phonemes, and to omit phonemes. They also improved significantly with their level of decodification reading and reading comprehension. This demonstrates the effectiveness of the Metaphonological Program of Skills on phonological conscience, reading decodification and reading comprehension. Effects on the intelligence are even observed.
