Fitotherapy searches alternatives to solve oral diseases, with medicinal plants, as practical and low cost products. Copaifera is one the most important gender of medicinal plants in the Amazon region and Brazil. It might have an antimicrobial activity against major perioontopathogenic bacteria that gingivitis and periodontitis. Objective: Determine the antimicrobial activity of the oleoresin of Copaifera officinalis against major periodontopathogenic bacteria (ATCC) Porphyromona gingivalis and Fusobacterium nucleatum at different concentrations. Materials and methods: The agar dilution technique was used to determine the minimal inhibitory concentration. Porphyromona gingivalis and Fusobacterium nucleatum ATCC were used. The oleoresin at 10 concentrations::100%, 50%, 25%, 12.5%, 6.25%, 3.12%, 1.56%, 0.78%. 0.39%, 0.19%. Clorhexidine 0.12% was used as positive control, pure Schaedler agar and Tween 80 as negative controls. 13 plates were used and the experiment was duplicated. Results: the minimal inhibitory concentration for Porphyromona gingivalis was 1.56%. The minimal inhibitory concentration for Fusobacterium nucleatum was 50% of the concentration of the oleoresin. Clorhexidine was more effective at a lower concentration. Conclusions: The oleoresin of Copaifera officinalis showed antimicrobial effect against Porphyromona gingivalis and Fusobacterium nucleatum, the first one was more sensitive and the second one was more resistant to the action of the oleoresin.
