--- Patients with HIV / AIDS, due to the characteristics of the disease, show a progressive deterioration of the immune system, being more vulnerable to developing oral diseases such as dental caries; periodontal disease and other lesions in soft tissues may represent one clinical sign of the disease. They present problems in obtaining dental care for social, economic or discriminatory, which lower oral health status. The aim of this study was to determine the culture of prevention and oral health status of patients with HIV / AIDS. We evaluated 250 patients who were treated at the Department of Infectious Diseases of the National Hospital Hipolito Unanue (MOH) during the period from September to December 2012, prior informed consent, each assigned a questionnaire on the Prevention and underwent one oral examination to assess the oral health condition (plaque index, gingival index and CPOD index), the data were recorded in SPSS 17. Patients had poor preventive Culture (67.6%), Regular Oral Health Condition (moderate plaque index (55.6%), moderate gingival index (64.4%) and index CPOD 4.84 ± 1.96). Others oral lesions such as Oral Candidiasis (32.8%), oral Herpes (3.2%). The Oral Health Status Regular was influenced by poor oral hygiene and regular preventive knowledge level presented by patients, so it shows the importance of providing adequate dental care and educational lectures to improve their quality of life. Keywords: Culture preventive HIV / AIDS patients, oral health condition of patients with HIV / AIDS, oral hygiene, oral herpes, oral candidiasis.
