-- The objective of this study was to determine the frequency of transmissible venereal tumour (TVT) in dogs from Lima city, during 1998 to 2004 and to establish its characteristics according to sex, breed, age; most affected organs by the tumours and the areas were the animals come from. The cytology and histopathology protocols of The Embryology, Histology and Veterinary Pathology Laboratory (School of Veterinary Medicine, Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos) were analyzed. The frequency of TVT was 8.43% (78/925), no sex predisposition was found. Dogs of Mixed breed were the most affected and the age interval was between one to five years. The external genitalia were the most affected sites (prepuce or penis in male dogs and vulva or vagina in female dogs); extra genital lesions in the nasal, oral and anal mucosa, skin, inguinal lymph nodules and spleen were also infiltrated. All areas of Lima had cases of TVT but the majority of animals came from the North, South and East; also, pets from Mala and Huacho Districts and Tumbes City were registered.Key Words: Transmissible venereal tumour, frequency, canines, neoplasia.
