This research has a descriptive and correlational type, cross-sectional, which general aim was to identify factors that influence the perception of the quality of the external user of dental clinics in San Marcos University. The population consisted of all patients who received care at the clinics during the second half of 2011. The sample consisted of 210 patients over 14 years, who were chosen in different areas of the clinic, which was performed a twostage simple random sampling. We used the modified SERVQHOS instrument which was validated by pilot testing through exploratory factor analysis and alpha of Cronbach's, which yielded high internal consistency. The results obtained showed that the socio-demographic factors that influence the perception of quality are the age and educational level of patients, found in both a statistically significant association between the variables (p<0,05). We also determined that the dimensions belonging to the subjective quality like timeliness of care and waiting time are negatively influencing in the perception of quality. Not appearing in the objective quality differences between their dimensions. Levels of total quality perception of external users of the Dental Clinic of San Marcos were regular in 71.4%., 27.1% as good and a very small percentage as bad (1.4%). In conclusion, this work focused on exploring and identifying those factors or principal components, which have a greater impact on perceived quality of users or patients of the clinic. This can be a basis for implementing improvements in the institution, with the consequent greater customer satisfaction and continuous quality improvement.
