The aim was to characterize the process of decision making in nursing students in the EAPE - UNMSM. Methods: The study was level application, quantitative, cross sectional method. The sample was 157. The technique was the survey instrument and a standard form modified Likert Scale, with informed consent. Results: 100 %( 157), 62% (98) do not perform the process, 38% (59) if they perform the process. Regarding the dimensions: identify the problem and analyze the situation 56% (88) if 44% (69) no, 52%considering alternatives (81) no, 48% (71) if, choice of the most desirable alternative 76 % (119) no, 24% (38) if, implementation of decision 57% (89) if 43% (68) no, and evaluation of results 69 %(109) no, 31% (48) if. About the years of study, the first year 89% (32) do not perform, second 77% (24) no, the third 63% (19) no, the fourth 59% (17) if they do, and fifth 65% (20) if. In relation to age, 16 to 19 100% (40) do not perform, from 20 to 23 67% (52) not; between 24 and 27 to 83% (29) if, between 28 to 31 100% (4) other. In relation to sex, women 55% (87) do not perform, but males7% (11) no. Conclusions: A higher percentage of students do not perform the process of making decisions but in steps identify the problem and analyze the situation and implementation of the decision, if carried out, but considering the alternatives, choice of the alternative and evaluating the results, as well as women, first to third year and 16 to 23 years do not make the process while the fourth and fifth year and the 24 to 27 years if they do.
